The Oakland Files: The American Emperor Fire

Updated: Jun 15

On April 1, a fast moving fire destroyed the long standing American Emperor building in East #Oakland.

Reported during the early hours, the fast moving fire forced employees to run for their lives as Oakland firefighters attempted to place the blaze under control.

After escalating the fire to a third-alarm, the firefighters quickly went into defensive mode as it became clear that attempting to save the building was a lost cause.

The American Emperor building had served the Oakland community since 1983 and was a long-standing fixture in the East Oakland skyline.

To date, there was no determination for the cause of the fire.
